Most people with Lyme disease then develop a red rash in a ring, and this might be the only sign of infection. The rash spreads from the site of the bite after three to 30 days. Other common symptoms of Lyme disease include fatigue, headaches, joint pain and flu-like symptoms.

Without treatment, these symptoms can last weeks or even longer. In rare cases, complications are not serious and in some cases can occur several years later.

Early detection and treatment of disease helps to relieve symptoms and reduce illness. For this reason it is important to be aware of the symptoms, especially the rash, so that treatment can be administered without delay.
